7-8 Grid opened up a whole new world of playing for me.
Playing all patterns off the right hand and left hand, feeling partials on the upbeat and downbeat, restricting and mixing ornaments on the three and four note groupings, the variations are infinite!
Because the ornaments are typically restricted to the only the four note groupings, even gridding different drag and flam variations would often be a mind trip for me.
HOW TO GET STARTED
This is the one sheet page I now use to teach all my students how to play this grid.
I’ve also included a page of some manuscript paper so you can write out your own variations as I did when I first learned how to play these.
Master these variations, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly you’ll be able to pick up new parts regardless of how they feel on the beat and and on which hands the ornaments are being played.
