The Key To Making Any Drumline
Whether you are auditioning for your High School Drumline or a Drum Corps Drumline, there is one key aspect you are going to need to have in order to make the cut.
Maybe the question should be: “how do you avoid getting cut?”
Are instructors looking for experience? If that’s the case, most people would be out of luck since everyone has some sort of limited experience.
What about technique? Surely they’re going to want you to closely follow whatever technique the group uses to create their drumming identity.
How about chops? Maybe if you go up there and you can’t play flam drags, that might be the end of your chances.
At the end of the day, it really comes down to fundamentals. If you have experience, you will have a good grasp of the fundamentals. Your flawless technique will be a testament to your fundamentals. Your chops will be deeply rooted in fundamental principals that helped you build them in the first place
