Why smaller is better!

Size matters in the band world. Everyone can see that it is usually the bigger bands that win the overall competition and that they’re usually the ones everyone is waiting to hear as the competition goes on. Those who are in smaller or even medium sized bands may feel intimidated or envious of these larger bands who are able to produce large amounts of sound because of their ability to pull numbers from their usually large schools, regions, or corps.

But here’s where those of you from smaller corps and schools can take pride. At the end of the day, if you put in the same amount of work as those larger bands, your drumline can easily score higher or just as high as those other groups. Due to your smaller size, you’re able to get the overall music faster and then be able to engage those details that need to be fine tuned. Your smaller Drumline is at an advantage. As stated before though, you have to put in the work to put forward the same quality of music as those of larger groups.

In this case, sometimes smaller is better!

Through actively having your drumlines practice whenever they’re willing, you’ll find that those who choose to practice are going to learn faster than those who are being forced too. Quality bands don’t do the normal practice of only two hours a day. They go beyond that, and when they practice they don’t take two minutes to reset for the next run, and they certainly don’t constantly check to see how much longer they have so that way they can run back to the storage room and yeet out of there.

Want to be there, want to improve, and you’ll find that your playing will get better, you’ll have way more fun, and you’ll be able to say you got close or did beat one of those larger groups.

Happy Marching 🙂
